Sheriff Ronald J. Theriot is 67 years old and was born in Saint Martin Parish to Lloyd and Eula Devillier Theriot. He is married to Kathleen "Kathy” Capritto Theriot; formerly married to Jeannie Fuselier (deceased) and is the father of 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He is a lifelong resident of Saint Martin Parish with 45 years experience as a law enforcement professional. Sheriff Theriot spent 4 years in the U.S. Air Force Military Police (one year served in Vietnam) and received an Honorable Discharge - U.S. Air Force.

He served 31 years with the Louisiana State Police and retired with the rank of Major from Louisiana State Police. He was Region 3 Command Inspector responsible for 5 troops, in 42 parishes, with over 300 personnel; he was former commander of Troop I for 16 years

 
 
Sheriff Theriot attended U.S. Air Force Police Academy, State Police Academy, FBI National Academy, DEA National Academy and Level I and Level II Management in State Government.

Sheriff Theriot was elected Sheriff of Saint Martin Parish October 4, 2003 and he took the Oath of Office October 16, 2003; In the year 2003, he was appointed Director of the Saint Martin Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness; In the year 2003, he was Parade Marshall at the Christmas Parade in Saint Martinville; In the year 2004, he was Parade Marshall at the Independent Parade in Saint Martinville;
 
In the year 2004, he was awarded Louisiana Sheriff's Honorary Membership Program Award; In the year 2005, he was awarded Business Leader of the Year by Saint Martinville Chamber of Commerce for Dedicated Service and Commitment to Excellence; In the year 2005, he was Grand Marshall of the Henderson Mardi Gras Parade. Awarded the 2007 Keep Louisiana Beautiful Award.

In October of 2011, Sheriff Theriot was re-elected to his third term as Sheriff of Saint Martin Parish. On June 25 2012, he took the Oath of Office beginning his newly elected third term as Sheriff.
