Arnaudville Man Arrested And Charged In Connection With Home Improvement Fraud

(St. Martinville, LA.)-In early April 2018, an investigation was initiated into a complaint regarding alleged contractor fraud regarding a Butte Larose homeowner. The complainant hired the contractor to remodel her home in September of 2017 and several months into the job, the work on the home was incomplete. Upon further investigation, it was learned that a payment was never rendered to a sub-contractor despite payment by the homeowner for the sub-contractor’s fees. Sub-standard work was done in several areas of the home, and as a result, additional damage was reported by the homeowner. Unnecessary work that was not requested by the homeowner was also done on the home and was subsequently billed by the contractor to the homeowner.

On Friday, at the culmination of the investigation, Investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Nicholas Bradford, 35, (dba Gulf Coast Renovators), Arnaudville, and charged him as follows:

1-Count-LA. R.S. 14:202-Contractors;Misapplication Of Payments Prohibited (Felony)

1-Count-LA. R.S. 14:202.1-Home Improvement Fraud (Felony)

Following his arrest, he was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the above charges.

Please exercise caution when you hire home repair personnel. Check with the Better Business Bureau and don’t provide payment up front to avoid these types of situations. Ask friends and family for referrals so that you can know the status of the company or individual’s work quality and history.
