Attorney General's Investigation Results In Arrest - 2/27/2015 -

(St. Martinville, LA.)-Earlier this week, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office received information from St. Martin Parish School Board Officials in reference to a Sheriff’s Office employee. Upon receiving the information, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office placed the employee on administrative leave, and immediately contacted the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office and asked them to initiate an investigation into the alleged misconduct.

As a result of the investigation into the matter, Investigator’s with the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office arrested Michael Barber 39, Breaux Bridge, this afternoon on the following charges:

LA. RS 27:14:81.1 Attempted Production of Child Pornography

LA. RS 14:81 Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile

LA. RS 14:134 Malfeasance in Office

       Michael Barber

Prior to his arrest, Barber, a 15-year veteran of law enforcement, resigned from the Sheriff’s Office.

Following his arrest, he was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the above charges. His bond has been set at $40,000.00.

Although this matter remains under investigation and there is no further information available at this time, the Sheriff’s Office wants to emphasize that no one, especially a law enforcement employee, is above the law.
