AARP Driver Safety Course

A trained deputy conducts courses throughout the year for anyone 55 and over.  The AARP Driver Safety

Course is a 4-hour refresher course on Driver Safety strategies.

 

Ageless Expo This annual event is sponsored by the Saint Martin Parish Sheriff’s Department and is held in the Spring of each year for the Senior Citizens of Saint Martin Parish (Ages 55 and up) and consists of over 30 vendors that provide information on services provided to senior citizens.
Are You OK? The Are You Okay program is an automated call system designed to contact an elderly person, homebound individual or latch-key child on a daily basis that helps to reassure their well being and also give them a feeling of security.
Child Safety Seat Technician A certified Child Safety Seat Technician is available to assist with proper installations and life saving guidance as to which child safety seat should be used, considering the age, weight, and height of your child.
Crime Prevention-Neighborhood Watch Deputies in the Special Services Department can provide residents with information on Crime Prevention and ways to keep both themselves and their property safe.
Crisis Intervention Several Saint Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies have received specialized training to become Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Officers and they are equipped to respond to persons who may be experiencing a mental health crisis event.
D.A.R.E.

The D.A.R.E. program for Saint Martin Parish is operated under the auspices of the Saint Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Elderly, Youth and Community Services division within the Special Services Bureau.

 

Domestic Violence Program A Domestic Violence Coordinator conducts follow up calls to victims of domestic violence and provides assistance as needed.
Elderly, Youth and Community Services The Elderly, Youth and Community Services Division of the Special Services Bureau handle elderly services relations for the Saint Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency Preparedness Emergency Preparedness for Saint Martin Parish is coordinated through the Saint Martin Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP).
Hunter Safety Education Hunter Education provides a foundation for safe and responsible hunting.
P.O.S.T. Academy P.O.S.T. Academy
Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) The Rape Aggression Defense course is a 6 to 8 hour course held for women 14 years and up.  The objective of R.A.D. is to develop and enhance the options of self-defense, so they may become viable considerations to the woman who is attacked.
Scholarship Programs Currently, there is 1 scholarship program offered through the Saint Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Special Needs Registry The registry promotes communication and gives First Responders quick access to critical information about a registered person with disabilities in an emergency by capturing information such as a full description, routine/favorite attractions, communications, emergency contact information, as well as other special needs the registered person may require. If an incident occurs at the address that has been registered, then law enforcement will be automatically alerted that this information is on file.
Victim’s Assistance The Louisiana Crime Victims Reparations Fund helps innocent victims and their families when they have no other means of paying for the financial cost of a crime. The fund is administered by the Crime Victims Reparations Board under the jurisdiction of the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement.
Working Inmate Road Crews: The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office operates a working inmate road crew program where inmate workers are assigned to various crews with a supervising deputy that performs litter abatement and street level beautification such as grass cutting and the re-painting of curbs and cross-walks throughout the parish.
Yellow DOT Program: The Yellow Dot program is a safety program that is the first of its kind in Louisiana. The program is designed to assist citizens and First Responders in the event of an automobile accident or other medical emergency involving the participant’s vehicle.
Youth Services The Saint Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office offers a number of events and services for the Youth of Saint Martin Parish.
